Pianos are considered luxurious items, for both their value and the
wondrous melodies they can produce. They also happen to be quite large, and can
be extremely bulky and difficult to move around. If you have a piano of your
own, it might be a good idea to keep a few tips in mind so that you can move
the instrument with ease.
Before moving your piano,
you might want to have it entirely wrapped in blankets or padding for extra
protection. Its keys, corners and lid, in particular need to be properly
secured as they are some of the more fragile parts of the instrument. Packing
tape will be an indispensable tool in keeping a piano wrapped and evenly
protected on all sides. Other equipment that will come useful in moving the
instrument include heavy duty straps and a dolly to load the piano on.
Moving a piano should not be done alone, especially since the
instruments are not known for being lightweight. Consider having an able-bodied
family member or a friend to help you move. The better option would be to leave
the task entirely to a professional piano mover. Such contractors not only have
experience handling the delicate instruments, but should also have all the
equipment needed to safely carry and transport pianos.
